How I Built My Dream Life—And How You Can Too

Hey

In 2024, at 58 years old, I am living the life I once thought was unattainable.

My journey is defined by a loving family, a thriving career, physical and mental vitality, and a sense of purpose that energizes every day. But it wasn’t always this way.

My life can be summed up in three phases: ADHD-fueled chaos, building a foundation, and pursuing mastery. For decades, undiagnosed ADHD left me struggling with focus, impulse control, and an endless cycle of underachievement. Despite these challenges, there were glimmers of potential—high points in academics and in leadership—but I was unable to sustain those high points.

Once I finally got the ADHD treated and under control, the next decade became a time of stability and growth—taking on increasing leadership responsibility, marrying the love of my life, and learning how to be a great husband and father.

The turning point came in my late 40s. Faced with career stress and an aching feeling that I wasn’t living up to my potential, I knew something had to change. This wasn’t a moment of epiphany but the beginning of deliberate and intentional transformation.

The Three Pillars That Changed Everything:

1. Rediscovering Purpose
I began asking the tough questions: Why am I doing this? What is my purpose? It wasn’t about titles or material success; it was about creating a fulfilling, purpose-driven life. For me, this meant providing for and protecting my family and helping others live their best lives.

2. Physical and Mental Well-being
My journey to physical health started with Mark Divine’s SEALFIT program, which taught me the importance of mental and physical resilience. The key wasn’t to become superhuman but to commit to habits that strengthened my body and mind—like a structured morning routine and consistent exercise.

3. Leadership Through Empowerment
Learning from mentors like Dr. Richard Boyatzis and Jocko Willink, I adopted a human-centric leadership approach. I realized that leadership isn’t about authority; it’s about enabling people—whether at work or home—to thrive and achieve their dreams.

My Philosophy: Key Takeaways

This was my office wall and I put in a lot of hard work on that stencil!

Looking Forward-
In ten years, I envision a life that remains purposeful and enriching. I’ll still be training Jiu Jitsu, traveling with my wife, and contributing to others’ growth through my work. This journey is about evolution, not perfection—a commitment to being a little better every day.
